Behind the Hat

The Making

Each LEMALIE hat is handcrafted by Josephin in her London atelier and created on a made-to-order basis through a personal, one-on-one consultation.

The process begins with understanding — the wearer, the intention, the story — before moving into the physical creation of the hat.

Traditional Craft, Modern Interpretation

Drawing on centuries-old hatmaking techniques, every piece is blocked, shaped, stiffened, and finished entirely by hand. These time-honoured methods are preserved with care, yet interpreted through a contemporary lens.

Clean silhouettes, balanced proportions, and restrained detailing define the modern LEMALIE aesthetic — allowing craftsmanship to speak quietly rather than loudly.

Materials & Details

Materials are chosen for their quality, character, and history. From fine felts and straws to vintage leathers, rare textiles, and collected charms, each element adds depth and individuality to the final piece.

The finishing touches — stitching, embroidery, lining, shaping — are where craft and story meet, bringing the hat to life as a complete and considered object.
